If you’re over 18, live in the Rockingham/Peel region and experiencing a mental illness, here’s an opportunity to participate in group activities to assist the recovery journey!

Day to Day Living (D2DL) is a Commonwealth funded initiative that provides opportunities for education, skills development and recreation for persons living with a mental health difficulty.

D2DL is a psycho-social rehabilitation programme that provides a range of activities to assist people on their recovery journey by identifying and focusing on the individual’s strengths and wishes for the future. These include a collaborative assessment process, developing an individual management plan, partnerships with educational institutions and other service providers, providing educational opportunities, skills development, and recreational programs.

Needs-based groups are created using an integrated approach to meet the gaps in current service provision. These being:

Our Community Integration Group encourages community inclusion and minimises social isolation through increasing local community participation, assessing local resources and recreational activities. These groups also educate the wider community, discouraging negative ideas and stigma through role modelling and inclusion.

D2DL provides a range of different strategies to assist people who may consider resuming or beginning their education or employment skills. For example: The Garden Diggers transitional employment programme is in collaboration with the Murray House and Ngulla Community Nursery. It provides participants with Certificate 1 & 2 in Conversation and Land Management and is a pathway to other TAFE qualifications or employment opportunities.

Numerous other groups include study skill techniques, employment preparation, swimming lessons, self defence classes, golf lessons, art and music tutoring, and workshops like cooking, nutrition and drama. This is a small portion of opportunities available and we are not restricted to these groups, as subject matters is determined by participants through the needs identified and new groups are always being sought.

All our groups encourage community inclusion and minimise social isolation by increasing local community preparation and accessing local resources through the activities. Joining is free and voluntary. Interested? Contact our friendly staff on 9528 9431.
