About D2DL

D2DL is a psycho-social rehabilitation programme which provides opportunities for people with a mental illness, to improve their quality of life, participate more fully within the community, and reach their ideal level of independence.

The origin of D2DL

June O’Connor Centre founded her namesake centre in 1989 while at ARAFMI, as a place for carers and family members to drop off their charges while participating in ARAFMI programs. Today the June O’Connor Incorporation runs five centres’ across Western Australia, as well as two Day to Day Living Centres.

The June O’Connor Centre Inc. (JOC) was granted funds from the Commonwealth Government through its Support for Day to Day Living (D2DL), in the Community initiative. JOC describes this initiative as D2DL, which is now running at the familiar JOC Wellbeing Centres’ based in Joondalup, Rockingham and a new centre which opened in January at Mandurah.

Our Values and Philosophy

D2DL aims to encourage independence, resourcefulness and responsibility within our members.  At D2DL, we support our members in their learning journey by promoting dignity, acceptance and respect. Moreover, members foster self-esteem through social well-being and community integration.

Also, we work to increase positive community awareness of mental health issues by advocacy and role-modelling. D2DL values compassion and acceptance. That is why we employ friendly, caring and professional staff to support our members on their journey on personal growth, involvement and choice. All this comes together in D2DL’s mission to work together and being well forever.

Philosophy

D2DL provides a range of activities to assist people on their recovery journey by identifying and focusing on the individual’s strengths and wishes for the future. These include a collaborative assessment process and partnerships with educational institutions and other service providers to deliver education, skills development, and recreational programs.

Our members are important to us. We assist them in designing a personalised and adaptive coping strategy to minimise hospital readmission or relapse. We also educate them to recognise the early signs and personal triggers to illnesses. In this way, we are supporting them in recovering their own sense of self, in their own time and way.
